Sažetak
Jedan od najvažnijih konstituenata srpskog identiteta je predanje o Kosovskom boju. Oslanjajući se na Elijadeovo razlikovanje svetog i profanog, autor tvrdi da za srpski narod Kosovo predstavlja sveti prostor, Vidovdan sveto vreme, a Kosovsko predanje sakralni tekst. Zahvaljujući prolivenoj krvi srpskih vitezova, mučenika za odbranu pravoslavne vere i otadžbine, predeo Kosova preobražen je u sveti prostor. Vidovdan je neprolazni dan srpske istorije, jer je tada knez Lazar, u ime celokupnog naroda, dokazao opredeljenost Srba za Carstvo nebesko. Kosovski zavet je utemeljen na prethodnom Svetosavskom zavetu. Namera Sv. Save i Sv. Simeona Mirotičivog bila je da od Srba načine izabrani narod. Kosovski zavet je idejno osmislio Danilo III, ubrzo posle Kosovske bitke, a narodno epsko pesništvo je tom ideologijom proželo srpski narod. Zahvaljujući njoj srpski narod je, iako lišen države, uspeo da sačuva vlastiti identitet.
